Bad Habits is a book of portrait photographs that were taken following interviews where I asked each person, "do you have any bad habits?"
Each person stares hard into the camera, acknowledging the viewers presence, signalling an openness that they demonstrated with myself. In some of the photographs, the subject look shy, ashamed, or nervous. In others, there is a clear sense of; "this is me."
It was a fascinating project that allowed me to get to know lots of new people, improve my portrait photography skills, and experiment with bookmaking for the first time.
The answer was often complex and interesting, and I wanted the photographs to reflect this. For some people, the habit is blatantly clear, and for others you have to look a bit harder and interpret the image.
